Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus)

Interesting :

It is a slender tiger. Its size is a bit smaller than leopard. It has long limbs. Its hair is coarse and light yellow or red-yellow in color. It has black marking spots on its body. It has black ring on one third of its tail. The tail tip is white in color. It has black marking line striped from eyes head to edge of its mouth. It has small rounded ears. It has long hair on the nape of its neck. Its neck is short. It is the tiger that runs fastest. It can run at the speed of 100 – 110 kilometers per hour.

Habitat :

It is found in Africa in Sahara desert, Tanzania, and Namibia. It is also found in Asia in Asia Minor, Turkestan, and India. It is currently extinct in India.It normally hunts for middle size prays such as antelopes, gazelles, impalas, and waterbucks. It can also hunt big size preys such as horse and zebra. Besides, it hunts wild rabbits, birds, as well as goats and sheep.

Behavior :

It stays dry grassland. It does not keen on climbing. It leaves urinates to mark territory. It hunts in small group.

Reproductive :

It is mature and ready for mating at the age of 2 years. Gestation period is 90 – 95 days. One litter contains 1 – 8 young.
