White-bellied Sea-eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster)

Interesting :

The White-bellied Sea Eagle or White-breasted Sea Eagle is the medium to large sized bird with the body length of 66 to 69 centimeters. The male and female have the same characteristics. The head, chest, the lower part of the body of the fully grown-up bird are white. The upper part of the body is grayish brown. The tail and the wing is dark grey. The tail tip is white. The small White-bellied Sea Eagle’s whole body is brown. When it has the age of 3 years, it will have the above characteristics. While flying, we can clearly see the wing which is bended as the angle above the body, brown tail, and the white tail tip like the spade.

Behavior :

The White-bellied Sea Eagle normally stays alone or in pairs. It stays on the seashore, lake, and big river. It seeks for the food near its nest and uses its nest to accumulate the food. It is the feral bird but likes to build the nest near the human’s place. It makes the noise in the morning and in the evening. We can feed the bird and let it seeking for the food by itself. In the evening, it will come back to sleep in its nest at home. The fisherman in Phuket loves to feed it because it sometimes may bring a big sea fish to the owner and it is the bird that loves to accumulate the food.

Reproductive :

The White-bellied Sea Eagle starts breeding in the winter to summer. It builds the nest on the tree near the cliff of the seashore or near the water source which it seeks for the food. The nest of the bird is very simple which it uses the branches to stack. The nest is large with the diameter of 1.25 to 1.5 meters and the depth of 50 to 70 centimeters. The egg is white. It lays 2 eggs each time. Both the male and female help each other incubating the eggs and feeding the chick.
